About Us -> Staff and Volunteers

The DRC has three full-time and five part-time paid staff in the office, who do administration, volunteer recruitment and mentoring, program coordination, training, outreach, fundraising, and case management. The DRC also pays a stipend to seven Lead Court Mediators, who mentor and supervise the Court Mediator volunteers.

The DRC has about 160 active volunteers. About 30 are Telephone Conciliators, who work a weekly shift in the office answering calls from clients, conciliating over the phone, and setting up cases for mediation. About 40 are Court Mediators, who mediate at Small Claims Courts in King County. About 80 are certified Community Mediators, who mediate family, neighbor, workplace, business, landlord-tenant and multi-party disputes in the community. And about 14 are members of the DRC Board of Directors.

DRC mediators are community volunteers from all walks of life who have completed a 36 hour professional training in mediation, completed a supervised mediation practicum, and been certified as mediators. Many also have additional advanced training in marriage dissolution, parent-teen, workplace, multi-party, and victim-offender mediation training.
